Delhi the capital city of India is known for its historical buildings, art and architecture. It was ruled by Mughals and later by Britishers so the city exhibits influence of both. Those who want to peep into the past of India can do so by visiting Delhi. Other than history, Delhi also offers an understanding of what India is today, as it symbolizes modernization of Indian culture which can be witnessed by visiting the place.
Your day tour will start with the driver picking you up from your hotel and you will be taken to the UNESCO World Heritage site Qutub Minar built by Qutubuddin Aibak, a sultan ruler. It is a towering minaret with carvings done on it. There is one 5th century column- Iron Pillar as well in the complex, which is known for not being rusted even in extreme weather.
From here your next destination will be the beautiful Lotus Temple dedicated to Bahai religion built in shape of Lotus; it is surrounded by huge lawns and gardens and has pond on its 4 sides. Here you can sit and feel the soothing calmness and rejuvenate your spiritual side.
Our next stoppage will be at India Gate located at the centre of Delhi with a drive past the Parliament, President’s house and other government buildings. India gate is a memorial for the martyrs of First World War designed by British architect Edward Lutyens. The place is popular picnic spot with lush green grass surrounding the imposing structure.
Raj Ghat and Red Fort
From here you will proceed towards Raj Ghat which is dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi as he was cremated here. Next place is Red fort built by Mughals in red sand stone in Mughal style of architecture which is an amalgamation of Persial, Hindu and Rajput styles of architecture. The place was the Mughal residence in 1600’s and now is a museum. At the nearby Chandni Chowk and Paranthe wali gali, one can relish the popular street food of Delhi.
Other places to be visited in the city are the Humayun’s Tomb made by widow of Humayun Haji Begum, Hauz Khas Village and Akshardham Temple dedicated to Swami Narayan. In the end you will be dropped at your hotel and our tour will end here.
